Many concerned members of St. Paul support a variety of programs to relate the gospel to daily life - improving the human condition and addressing justice issues for the well-being of people here and throughout the world. Current programs include:
Ministry to people with AIDS, HIV and cancer at Fairmont Hospital
A program to provide Christmas gifts and food boxes to local children and families
Rebuilding Together Oakland
Rebuilding Together's mission is to preserve and revitalize houses and communities, assuring that low-income homeowners, from the elderly and disabled to families with children, live in warmth, safety, and independence. Each year, St. Paul Lutheran Church joins others and takes on one of these houses. This used to be known as Christmas in April.
Support of Multiple Ministries in Africa
- Fundraising and support for battered womens' shelters, AIDS programs, and A Friendly Manor (a shelter for homeless women in Oakland).
- Promoting letter-writing campaigns on justice issues
- This is only a partial list of the many ways that our membership works to live the gospel through social action.
